I found a signed painting being sold on Etsy as a M. C. Escher's print "Named Impossible Chess"

With the help of AI, I was able to restore the digital image. Most of the copies of this painting have been photoshopped to enhance the color and crop off the signature line. The painter signed the painting in Spanish.

"Los Jugadores de Ajedrez" 1976 Sandor Balatoni Pongo. My research identified Balatoni Pongo as a dual-surname. I found Sandor Balatoni in San Francisco CA. But he lived from 1915-1979. He died three years after the painting was signed.
r the painting was signed, and 7 years after Escher died.

I don't know how to post the image file. I don't have a URL.

The painting is an "Impossible Chess" game with pieces from both sides of the chessboard are warring with each other. The bottom side of the board has impossible ladders raised to climb to the top side.

It's a disgrace that such an amazing painting and painter are not given the credit they deserve. Sandor Balatoni is an Hungarian name. The Pongo surname would be his Spanish speaking wife's surname. I San Francisco Sandor Balatoni was a photographer who sold his pictures to for postcards.

Does anybody here know anything about about him. You can find the print for sale on Etsy as "Impossible Chess" by MC Escher!!!
